Telecommunications offers paging services to University departments through Wiztronics, providing service in Washington and Oregon.  Digital, alphanumeric and two-way pagers are offered for rental to departments for staff use.

This type of pager is slightly smaller than the alphanumeric and is simpler to operate. It has a small display screen which will only display numbers to the user. It is popular with departments who are providing pagers to student employees or staff members who are on call. The monthly cost for basic pager service with this pager is $12 per month and the rental unit is included at no extra charge. Lost or damaged digital pagers are billed to the department at current replacement cost.
 

Alphanumeric pagers are slightly larger than the numeric pagers, and have several advantages. They allow users to send text messages to the pagers, which can help reduce the need for the pager user to return a phone call. The monthly cost for basic pager service with this pager is $20 per month. Lost or damaged alphanumeric pagers are billed to the department at current replacement cost.
 

Two-way pagers are slightly larger than the alphanumeric pagers, and have several advantages.  They allow users to send and receive text messages, which can help reduce the need for the pager user to return a phone call.  The monthly cost for basic pager service with this pager is $28 per month.  Lost or damaged two-way pagers are billed to the department at current replacement cost.

Send an e-mail to telecom@wwu.edu.  You will need to have the following information:

• Pager type (digital, alphanumeric or two-way)
• The name(s) of the person(s) for whom you are requesting pagers
• The account code (fast index) you wish to have billed for the monthly pager rental and if applicable the pager purchase price, with permission from the authorized person for that account
• Your department's name, and the name and telephone number of the contact person for the pagers

Pagers are billed monthly through the Telecommunications office. Basic service for a pager costs $12 per month for a digital (numeric) pager, $20 per month for alphanumeric or $28 per month for two-way. Departments will see the costs for their pagers on their regular monthly telephone bill, listed with the name of the person using the pager.
