Notes on Postponed Minutes
General Education Requirements:
Commissioners would like to have a formal presentation of this significant change to the GER requirements in the Sciences. This does not mean they are opposed to the change, but need further time to consider the proposal since it was not a formal part of todays agenda. Commissioners will review GUR guidelines and will ask Linda Luke to explain the change since she is most knowledgeable about coding for CAPP.
ACC REQUESTS THAT THE GER COMMITTEE PLEASE PUT COURSE TITLES IN THE MINUTES, SINCE OTHERWISE IT IS VERY CHALLENGING TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS BEING
DISCUSSED.
ACC Motions made re Curricular Minutes
Huxley College and College of Business and Economics and alpha suffices
ACC passed a motion that CBE** and Huxley College have a year to work out a way to accommodate changes and prerequisites in removing alpha suffices with the expectation that by this time next year they will have worked out the difficulties. (Moved by Marie Eaton, seconded by Michael Meehan)
**CBE cannot at present figure out a rational way to change their numbering system. They have used up all the numbers. For instance an introductory sequence in a graduate program would have to have a higher number than the course for which it is a prerequisite. The Registrar mentioned that it would not be easy to cram these numbers in and have them in a nice sequential order as requested. We are asking them to do a lot this year, and the Registrar is willing to make some concessions. This includes degree audit, course repeat, and prerequisite checking. Also, there is a much shorter cycle problem with graduate and 500 level numbers. ACC might consider a more relaxed approach to 500 level courses.
MOTION RE ADD/DROP POLICY
ACC passed a motion for language to be included in the catalog that
if a student withdraws prior to 5 pm of the second Friday of the quarter, no W will appear on the official transcript.
ุ This does not affect the historical record or the unofficial transcript.
ุ The Registrar noted that full refund of tuition only takes place if withdrawal takes place in the first week, by State requirements. The Registrar will have to come up with a mark other than a W because he has to retain a record of courses and credits as a fiscal matter that affects student tuition forfeiture and financial aid.
ุ Commissioners entrust the Registrar to come up with a more elegant and informative language in the catalog.
Commissioners adjourned at 5:30 pm.
