John Purdy, 2002-2003 President, called the Senate
meeting to order at 4:04 pm. Senators
approved the minutes of February 24, 2003, and an amended page to the minutes of
February 10, 2003, and Standing Committee minutes. A letter detailing university policies on areas affected by
the Patriot Act was distributed on behalf of University President Karen Morse
who was away at a meeting.

Bob Edie reported to Senators on State budget
drafts which currently propose no significant cutbacks to programs, and
completion of most new building projects.
§
Provost Bodman reported that several Deans’
searches are nearing completion, and the final report from the General Education
Task force would be released to the campus this week.
§
John Purdy reported the Executive Council received
excellent recommendations from the Ad Hoc Committee on Ombuds.
§
As a result of constituents’ concerns, Senators
agreed to draft a letter requesting that faculty members be notified whenever a
student grade is changed for withdrawal or other administrative purposes, and
requested that the administration look into timely granting of visas for
international faculty.
§
Senators discussed tenure and promotion issues and
heard Provost Bodman present various ideas to strengthen the quality of
documentation, including a request for a well-defined appeal process.
Senators asked the Executive Council to draft Handbook revisions and
bring them to the Senate at the earliest possible opportunity.
§
Senators chose to forego moving to Executive Session and adjourned
at 5:58 pm.

required for Areas B, D, E and F.
