Irene has a BA in Business Management and Psychology. During her
professional career in Public Health she worked with AIDS service
organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her personal yoga
practice helped relieve stress and contributed needed discipline to
her life. In 2005, a move and career change offered her the
opportunity to train and become certified at the Life Mastery Yoga
Program in Oklahoma City. After completing the program in 2006, she
registered with Yoga Alliance as a Professional Yoga Instructor, and
has remained a member since. Irene also has 2 special
certifications: American Council on Exercise-Multiple
Sclerosis for Fitness & Wellness, and the Arthritis
Foundation-Walk with Ease Program Certification.
Irene’s passion is teaching yoga with an emphasis on proper body
alignment for maximum effectiveness. Her approach to yoga was
originally proven during her first professional teaching engagement
at Northern Oklahoma College, where she served as adjunct faculty in
the Health & Physical Education Program. Irene moved to Bellingham
in 2007 and began her local practice at the YMCA, teaching the
popular class “Yoga from the Inside Out.” Her goal is to help
students use the body’s natural energy to provide strength and
flexibility to enhance daily living.
For the WWU Wellness Program Irene teaches Campus Hatha Yoga on TR
12-1 in Carver Gym D & Restorative & Meditative Yoga on MF
12-1.
