Classified Staff
Participation in the State of Washington Department of Retirement Systems is
mandatory and contributions begin on the first day of employment (RCW 41.40.108).
Professional Staff
Professional Staff are eligible to participate in the Western Washington University
Retirement Plan (WWURP) on the first day of employment if the position being held is
expected to work more than 70 hours per month for more than five (5) months of the year.
WWURP eligible employees have the option to waive participation during the first two
years of eligibility.
Faculty (Tenure/Tenure Track)
Tenure and tenure track faculty are eligible to participate in the Western
Washington University Retirement Plan (WWURP) on the first day of employment if the
position being held is expected to work more than 70 hours per month for more than five
(5) months of the year.
WWURP eligible employees have the option to waive participation during the first two
years of eligibility.
Faculty (Part-Time/Adjunct)
Part-time and adjunct faculty are eligible to participate in the Western Washington
University Retirement Plan (WWURP) on the first day of employment if the position
being held is expected to work more than 70 hours per month for more than five (5) months
of the year (two consecutive quarters greater than 40% FTE).
If the position being held is contracted quarterly (quarter-by-quarter), eligibility
begins after two consecutive quarters working at least 40% FTE. WWU does not coordinate
with other Universities or Community Colleges in determining eligibility for the WWURP.
WWURP eligible employees have the option to waive participation during the first two
years of eligibility
