New (Permanent) Employees
If you are expected to work at least 50% for more than six months, your coverage begins
on the first of the month following the date of employment. If your employment begins the
first working day of the month, coverage begins on that day. This applies to permanent
classified staff, Professional Staff, and tenure/tenure track faculty .
Nonpermanent ("Temporary Hourly") Employees
After six consecutive months working at least 50% of the available hours in the month,
coverage begins the first day of the seventh month.
Part-Time Faculty ("Quarter-By-Quarter")
If you are expected to work at least two consecutive quarters of 50% or more, then
coverage begins the first day of the month following the start of the first quarter. If
you are contracted quarter by quarter, then coverage begins the first day of the month
following the second consecutive quarter working 50% or more at one or more institutions
of higher education. Spring Quarter and Fall Quarter are considered consecutive quarters
when determining eligibility.
