The Human Resources Training and Development department offers many Professional - Organizational Development and Information Technology  classes and workshops to help you learn new skills, improve your productivity and decrease your frustration. Classes are offered multiple delivery methods, from instructor-led training (ILT) to web delivered training (e-Learning) to a mix of both (blended learning).  Classes and workshops are scheduled quarterly and additionally scheduled based on requested courses.  Available courses and scheduled classes are listed at the WWU Training website.


Who May Attend Classes?

Who is eligible to take workshops through Human Resources Training and Development

Whether you are full time, part time, project, or temporary, the classes offered are open to ALL Western Washington University employees. Great professional development opportunities are available as well as information technology training. Many classes are free, while others can be paid by budget transfer from your department (use the Training & Development Registration Request form) or personal payment (use the HR Training Class - Personal Payment form).

Employees of organizations under interagency agreement are welcome to register for classes through Human Resources Training and Development on a space available basis.  Examples of interagency agreements include state agencies, county, city and port.  For more information regarding interagency training status, contact Training and Development at (360) 650-4998.  Class Registration form non-WWU personnel.

Instructor-Led classes are offered in three different formats: 

  • Standard Classes: All ILT classes are hands-on, active learning in the Training and Development Computer Lab Administrative Center B (405 32nd St), room 341). Each participant completes tasks while following the instructor and courseware examples. Additional exercises in each section, with instructor assistance, further strengthen the learning process.  Professional/Organizational Development workshops are normally conducted in room 342 of 405 32nd Street.

Minimum class size: 5

Maximum class size: 18 for ILT; varies for Professional Development

Class Duration: Most ILT classes are 7 to 9 hours in length and are conducted in 3.5 - 4.5 hour blocks over a period of 2 days.  Professional Development workshops vary in duration from 2 to 4 hours, occasionally longer.

Registration/Cancellation Deadline:

  • 2 calendar weeks for fee classes and
  • 1 calendar week for non-fee classes prior to class unless otherwise specified
  • Custom Classes: Similar to the Standard Classes, they also can be customized to combine content from several classes. You can specify class dates, times, emphasis and pacing. These classes can be conducted at the Administrative Center B (405 32nd St), room 341 (computer lab) or room 342 (training room) or at your specified location. 

Maximum class size: 18 in the Training and Development Lab

  • Consulting/Individual Instruction: One-on-one consultation. Work on specific projects or problem areas in your own office. Available by appointment.
