Position
The Biology Department at Western Washington University invites applications for a tenure track, Assistant Professor position in Cell Physiology, beginning September 2007. We seek individuals who are committed to undergraduate and masters’ student education and who will establish vigorous research programs that involve students.
Responsibilities
Teach Biol 206 (Introduction to Organismal Biology), preferably the animal physiology section.
Teach Biol 323, (Cell and Molecular Biology)
Contribute to the Cell Emphasis and the interdisciplinary Cell and Molecular Biology/Biochemistry curriculum at the 400-level, including a specialty course in area of expertise
Maintain an active program in biological research in cellular physiology involving undergraduate and graduate students and seek extramural funding
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in cell physiology, preferably in an animal system
Evidence of the potential to teach Biol 206, preferably the animal physiology section
Evidence of the potential to teach Biol 323
Evidence of the potential to teach advanced courses in cell physiology
Evidence of effective scholarship
Evidence of the potential to establish a research program in cellular physiology that includes mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate (Masters) students in research
Preferred Qualifications
We are particularly interested in applicants who investigate structure-function relationships or integrated regulation of function at the cell, tissue, or organ level.
While the department particularly needs a faculty member with expertise in animal systems to teach required courses, it also needs expertise in plant systems so a person working with plants would be considered for the position.
Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student body.
