Assistant Professor of US Latina/o Literatures

 

 

POSITION        

Tenure-track Assistant Professor of English (U.S. Latina/o Literatures), beginning September 2007.  Responsibilities to include a standard quarter system teaching assignment (currently 2-2-2), with specialty courses at the undergraduate and MA levels, general education courses, and other courses depending on the candidate’s interests and departmental needs, as well as serving the department through a range of activities including advising.  Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications.

 

DEPARTMENT

The department has a full-time faculty of 29, B.A. programs in Literature and Creative Writing, Education (elementary and secondary), M.A. programs in English Studies and Creative Writing, as well as courses that provide training in composition/rhetoric, cultural studies, film, linguistics, and technical writing.  The department offers small, student-centered classes, innovative pedagogy, and close faculty-student interaction. QUALIFICATIONS    

Ph.D. Required by August 2007.  Also required of applicants is a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and a potential for strong scholarship.  We welcome (but do not require) additional areas of expertise such as composition/rhetoric, creative writing, ethnic studies, film, and pedagogy.  Familiarity with and sensitivity to cultural diversity concerns is desired.

LOCATION       

The campus, overlooking the San Juan Islands, is located in Bellingham, a coastal community of 72,000, about 90 miles north of Seattle and 55 miles southeast of Vancouver, B.C.  With proximity to mountains, lakes, islands, and rural areas, WWU offers easy access to recreation and scenic variety.
