About the Position:
The Environmental Studies department at Huxley College of the Environment is seeking qualified applicants to teach any or all of the following courses to be offered during the 2006-2007 school year. All courses use ArcGIS9. Preference will be given to individuals who are able to teach multiple classes.
This position is limited-term (non-tenure track) at the rank of Lecturer for the duration of the quarter(s) specified. Typically limited-term appointments are for lower division (introductory) courses in the four fields offered in Environmental Studies: Policy, Planning, Environmental Education and Geography. The GIS lecturer will be invited to participate in department activities.
All applicants, upon acceptance by the Huxley Personnel Committee, will be added to the Environmental Studies vacancy pool list.
Position Responsibilities:
Fall 2006:
EGEO-350 (4 credits) – Introduction to GIS
ESTU-401 (3 cr.) – Applications in GIS
(Emergency Management)
Winter 2007:
EGEO-350 (4 cr.) – Introduction to GIS
EGEO-352 (2 cr.) – Computer Cartography
Spring 2007:
EGEO-350 (4 cr.) – Introduction to GIS
EGEO-453 (3 cr.) – Advanced GIS Processing

Existing curriculum provided for EGEO-350 and EGEO-352. Curriculum for ESTU-401 and EGEO-453 to be developed in conjunction with Huxley GIS faculty and staff.
Required Qualifications:
M.A./M. S. or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
M.A. / M. S. in the discipline
Experience teaching in higher education
Ability to teach multiple courses referenced above
About the Department:
The Department, the College, and the University value teaching and the candidate is expected to be an exemplary teacher; to be current in the discipline; to engage students actively in their own learning, including discussion, writing, and analysis; and to provide students with feedback on their course work and examinations, and to be available to students through regularly-scheduled office hours in keeping with department policy. The Department of Environmental Studies: Policy, Planning, Education and Geography provides a home for diverse faculty and students who are committed to interdisciplinary environmental problem solving. The work of this department is largely interdisciplinary, though programs maintain a strong disciplinary identity. Department faculty are trained in anthropology, geography, education, natural resource management, urban and regional planning, law, political science, and related fields. Degree programs are environmental education, geography, planning and environmental policy, environmental journalism and environmental economics.
