Assistant Professor of Developmental Psychology

Position/Salary:
Assistant Professor, tenure-track, beginning September 16, 2007. Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications.
Required Qualifications:
· Ph.D. completed by September 2007 in developmental psychology or related area of psychology,
· Evidence of successful teaching,
· Active research program,
· Demonstrated ability to involve students in research,
· Publication record commensurate with experience.
· Demonstrate ability to teach at both the undergraduate and master's degree level and,
· Possess a commitment to excellence in teaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Research interests in social, emotional, or personality development,
· Strong quantitative background, and
· Experience working with diverse students and faculty.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in developmental psychology and research methods and statistics. Undergraduate courses might include Developmental Psychology, Social and Cognitive Development in Children, Psychology of Child Rearing, Adolescent Development, Seminar in Developmental Psychology, Research Methods and Statistics, Introduction to Psychology, and courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The candidate should also be prepared to teach courses in a Master’s level graduate program in Experimental Psychology.
Department:
The department has 27 permanent full-time faculty. Programs include a B.A. in Psychology and three graduate programs: M.S. programs in both Experimental Psychology and Mental Health Counseling and a M.Ed. in School Counseling (http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~psych). The department is scheduled to occupy a new building in 2008 that will include state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities.
University:
Western Washington University is a public and regional institution with competitive admissions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, approximately 12,000 students, and a strong emphasis on the liberal arts.
Location:
The University is located in Bellingham, Washington, a city of approximately 70,000 in a scenic coastal area between Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia.
