About the Position(s):  Fairhaven College maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary teaching positions. Our Curriculum Committee refers entirely to these applications as openings occur throughout the academic year for temporary non-tenure track teaching positions on a part-time basis with occasional opportunities for temporary, full-time appointments. Positions may become available at any time and are typically filled on a quarterly basis. 

 

Position Responsibilities:   Faculty should be prepared to teach in a learning community defined by five attributes: (1) interdisciplinary study, (2) student designed studies and evaluation of learning, (3) examination of issues arising from a diverse society, (4) development of leadership and a sense of social responsibility, and (5) curricular, instructional and evaluative innovation. This may include a limited role in academic advising and supervision of independent study proposals (ISPs.)

 

Academic Emphases:  Fairhaven's curriculum is organized around a core of exploratory studies, concentrated studies, and advanced studies. Additionally the core classes are organized into three groups: humanities and the expressive arts, society and the individual, and science and our place on the planet. Completion of course work includes an on-line student-faculty narrative evaluation process for each student.

 

 

Required Qualifications:  Demonstrated ability to teach an interdisciplinary curriculum and experience with teaching methods which promote active, participatory learning and experience working with a diverse student body.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree

Fairhaven College is an interdisciplinary, undergraduate unit of Western Washington University, dedicated to assisting students in taking an unusual degree of responsibility for the structure and content of their education specifically in the areas of creative arts and science.
