About the Position:
The Liberal Studies Department maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary teaching positions. In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year, applications are accepted continuously for temporary non-tenure track teaching positions on a part-time basis with occasional opportunities for temporary, full-time appointments. Positions may become available at any time and are typically filled on a quarterly basis.
Position Responsibilities:
Teach sections of existing courses that satisfy General Education Requirements and serve the major, typically in the lower division.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. or ABD status in an appropriate field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant teaching experience at the university level.
Broad perspective on the Humanities.
Experience and skills working with diverse students and staff.
About the Department:
The department is interdisciplinary in that its faculty are trained in a variety of academic fields and bring multiple scholarly perspectives to each of their courses. The department’s objectives are those traditionally associated with education in the liberal arts. It seeks to acquaint students with the content of major cultural traditions and with the principal modes of intellectual inquiry; to cultivate appreciation of human variety and tolerance for ambiguity; and to develop communication skills and habits of mind characterized by critical reflection, aesthetic sensibility, and continuing curiosity.
