CAMPUS COMPACT
POSITION/SALARY
Anticipated start date: December 2006 - January 2, 2007. Salary range: mid $36,500 – $40,000 depending on qualifications
This is a full-time administrative FLSA exempt position with an excellent benefits package including over 4 weeks of vacation. This position is partially grant funded and is dependant upon continued grant funding.
DEPARTMENT
Washington Campus Compact is a statewide coalition of colleges and universities (hosted at Western Washington University) who have united to: 1) help students become engaged leaders in their communities through service and civic engagement activities, 2) further the civic and public purposes of higher education, and 3) strengthen communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Community Engagement Program Manager will work as part of the team of Washington Campus Compact and is responsible for supporting community engagement efforts by managing community engagement programs, conferences, and initiatives. The Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Students in Service AmeriCorps program (30+ sites in Washington and Idaho) and for coordinating the Continuums of Service service-learning conference. Specific duties include:
Program Management
Develop and manage program budget and operational systems.
Supervise 2-4 student support staff.
Ensure compliance and provision of training and technical assistance to participating sites.
Ensure that students are properly enrolled and successfully complete the program, that Coordinators comply with all AmeriCorps policies, and that members are properly processed in WBRS and ultimately receive an education award.
Reach federal recruitment and retention goals and develop future involvement for continued program growth.
Respond to each site’s unique needs related to Students in Service. Ensure at least one site visit per year to each participating campuses in Washington and Idaho.
Submit continuation proposals, progress reports and file reimbursement requests.
Provide training and technical assistance to state Compact staff.
Develop all program written resources. Work with technical support staff to maintain/enhance program website.
Work with campus and regional partners, WACC advisory committee, external stakeholders and WACC staff to create relevant future programming based on identified needs.
Work with other national service programs in the region to strengthen the national service network.
Participate in AmeriCorps trainings at the federal, regional and state levels. This includes presenting the Students in Service model at a minimum of one conference annually.
Create and implement evaluation and assessment tools. Disseminate evaluation results to sites and community partners.
Conduct public outreach for the Students in Service program, and build a regional infrastructure.
Conference Coordination
Oversee coordination of annual regional Continuums of Service conference (400-500 participants).
Manage conference budget and operational systems.
Supervise support staff.
Coordinate and facilitate committees working on the conference.
Liaison with workshop presenters and keynote speakers.
Liaison with hotel staff.
Oversee all aspects of conference logistics including marketing, publications, registration, database management, etc.
Adhere to conference planning and coordination timeline.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
BA/BS degree
3 years program management experience
Professional experience coordinating large events
Strong communication skills
Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Experience in designing and presenting trainings
Ability to manage evaluation efforts
Supervision skills and experience
Willingness to travel and work some evenings and weekends
Preferred
Experience in marketing, public relations, and/or consulting
Higher education work experience
Familiarity with student leadership
Skills in the development and implementation of operational and strategic plans, and systems/analytical thinking
Knowledge of and/or experience with National Service
Experience with student leadership or in community engagement field
