Position/Salary
The Department of Engineering Technology at Western Washington University seeks applicants to fill a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor Position to begin September 16, 2007. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
Position responsibilities include teaching Engineering Technology core courses as well as advanced courses in one or more of the following areas: CNC machining, vehicle design/manufacturing, or plastics and composite materials. Additional responsibilities include: continued curriculum development, student advising and recruitment, developing internship and interdisciplinary opportunities, professional interactions with colleagues and industry, accreditation activities, student club and professional development activities. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong commitment to a high level of scholarly activity and to participate in department and University developmental activities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree (received from an accredited institution prior to September 16, 2007) in Engineering, Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of recent, relevant industry-based professional experience
Ability to teach core courses (e.g., manufacturing economics, fluid power, statics, strength of materials, machining, industrial quality assurance) and courses in one or more of the following areas: CNC machining, vehicle design/manufacturing, plastics and composite materials
Demonstrated experience in machining, vehicle design/manufacturing or composite materials
Successful prior teaching experience
Ability to work with a diverse student body and staff

Part of Western’s College of Sciences and Technology, the Engineering Technology Department offers
5 distinct academic programs: Industrial Design, Electronics Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Plastics Engineering Technology and Industrial Technology. The three engineering technology programs are accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The Industrial Design program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. There are 15 full-time faculty, several part-time faculty and 6 staff members in the department. The department is housed in the Ross Engineering Technology Building and serves approximately 450 majors.
