Director of Development for Athletics

POSITION
The Director of Development for Athletics is a full-time 12 month administrative FLSA exempt position with an excellent benefits package, including over 4 weeks of vacation. The position is available immediately. This position reports to the Senior Director for Gift Planning and Management. Salary: $60,000-67,000 depending on qualifications.
DEPARTMENT
The WWU Foundation http://www.foundation.wwu.edu exists to support Western Washington University with funds from private resources. The staff engage and solicit gifts from alumni, parents, friends, faculty and staff, corporations and foundations to support WWU programs. A 30-member board of directors oversees the Foundation’s investments and creates links to the community. Western Washington University again ranks second among public master’s granting universities in the West, according to the 2005 U.S. News & World Report college ratings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward annual and major gifts ($25,000 and above) in support of Athletics at Western. S/he will work collaboratively with the Athletic Director and coaching staff, external VIPs, University Advancement colleagues, and develop and implement relationship strategies to solicit and recognize major donors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
A Bachelor’s degree
A minimum of five years’ progressively responsible experience in development or closely related field
Demonstrated history of successful gift solicitations and closures
Experience working with volunteers
Excellent communication skills including written and interpersonal
Ability to strategize and organize detailed information in effective presentations and proposals
Preferred
Experience working in higher education, particularly in Athletics
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work with a diverse student body, staff, and constituents
