ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF STATISTICS

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

 

 

Position

Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in statistics, biostatistics or stochastic processes to begin Fall 2007.

This position may be offered on a limited term basis if no tenure-track candidate is selected. The position may be offered at the Associate level to a suitably highly qualified and experienced applicant. Salary range up to 60 K.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Faculty are expected to be excellent teachers who actively engage students in mathematical learning and are involved in curricular development. The current standard teaching load is two courses (about 9 classroom hours per week) per quarter. Scholarly collaboration with colleagues and development of a strong refereed publication record are expected.

 

Required Qualifications:

PhD or equivalent degree by August 2007.

 

Expertise in statistics, biostatistics or stochastic processes.

 

Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching and active scholarship.

 

Candidates with post-doctoral experience must show evidence of continued scholarly productivity, including recent refereed publications.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Expertise in statistics education.  

 

Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body and staff population.

 

About the University and Department

Western Washington University has approximately 500 faculty and 12,500 students. It is in Bellingham, an attractive city of  67,000 on the hills overlooking Bellingham Bay between Seattle and Vancouver. The ocean and mountains gives access to many recreational opportunities as well as metropolitan facilities and major research institutions. Bellingham is a culturally and physically active, environmentally friendly family community with good schools. The Mathematics department has 28 full-time faculty with widespread interests across applied and pure mathematics and math education. Besides our primary focus on undergraduate instruction we offer a Masters program with approximately 20 students.

Candidates must submit the Math Department summary cover sheet (available from math website), a vita, transcripts, a description of teaching accomplishments and philosophy, a statement of scholarly interests, and four letters of recommendation addressing both teaching and research.
