Position Purpose/Summary
The Assistant Director is responsible for creating, managing and sustaining an effective volunteer and activity program for students and young alumni spanning the course of 15 years for this Western constituency. The position will develop a comprehensive program that engages current WWU students and builds an awareness and connection to a life-long association with WWU; to co-create, with the Foundation, a GOLD (Graduate of the Last Decade) program; and develop and enhance engagement opportunities through career networking, internships and placement. This is a full time 12-month professional staff FLSA exempt position. Annual salary is $35000+ dependent on qualifications and experience. Compensation includes a full benefits package and over 4 weeks of paid vacation per year.
Position Responsibilities
Create, manage and implement policies for the Office of Alumni Relations newly established Young Alumni and Student Program.
Develop and implement a Student Alumni Association and cultivate a positive and involved relationship with the Associated Student body.
Collaborate with the Foundation to develop and implement a GOLD Program (Graduates of the Last Decade).
Create program activities and educational opportunities with campus constituents.
Plan, develop and maintain an electronic Career Networking Directory; recruit and sustain volunteers.
Develop and manage an alumni mentoring program.
Network with campus professionals to seek other alumni for internship placement opportunities.
Create resources with individuals and entities interested in hiring students and/or alumni, and/or who can provide job posting web sites.
Ensure records are maintained of all activities.
Employment conditions
Must be able to participate in evening and weekend activities as needed.
Overnight travel required.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in management, marketing, communications or related relevant field
Four years experience in non-profit or for profit program development
Demonstrated skills in entrepreneurial and creative approaches
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple high priority projects
Proficient skills in Microsoft Office
Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively engage and establish strong relationships with diverse groups and individuals.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with students and student programs, preferably in mentoring or alumni relations.
Budget management experience
