Assistant Director/Manager of Marketing
Office of University Communications
Position
This is a full time, permanent position responsible for enhancing the understanding, support and image of the University through targeted and comprehensive marketing and communications strategies. The salary range is $45,000 to $55,000 (DOQ) with a full benefits package including over 4 weeks of paid vacation.
Responsibilities
Develops short- and long-range marketing strategies to advance organizational objectives and improve communication of essential University messages.
Manages the development of print and electronic advertising and marketing materials.
Assists media relations efforts through a campus news beat system, sharing coverage responsibilities with the News Bureau/Media Coordinator, including writing news releases, articles, PSAs, and pitches.
Responds to media inquiries.
Develops and implements marketing plans through collaboration with the University’s Marketing Committee.
Enhances and creates new marketing relationships and partnerships.
Assists the director in managing crisis related communications.
Recruits, supervises and mentors student interns.
Manages the office in the director’s absence.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as marketing communications, public relations, media relations or journalism.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in related field.
Experience in development and implementation of marketing/communications plans.
Demonstrated professional writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to effectively work with diverse faculty, students, administrators, media representatives, community organizations and the general public.
Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task and efficiently prioritize assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field.
Familiarity with new technologies to improve communications efforts.

Western Washington University's Office of University Communications is responsible for overall communications activities for the University, including targeted marketing communications and image development, media relations, selected publications for external and internal constituencies, and emergency response. Communicates the University's mission, goals, accomplishments, activities and programs to diverse audiences.
