Bert Tatham (Geospatial Project Specialist, RADARSAT International)

ABSTRACT:
At 60cm resolution, satellite imagery is offering urban and park planners, municipal engineers and GIS managers a new source in deriving information products to assist in day-to-day decision making. Land cover classifications such as impervious surfaces and urban greenspace can be extracted from the satellite's multispectral data using a semi-automated approach as opposed to labour- intensive manual digitisation.

The presentation will cover
- a brief introduction to satellite imaging & image analysis technologies
- highlights from the City of Richmond project using QuickBird satellite imagery

11:50 – Noon: Further discussion, WAGIC report, March meeting details, adjourn.

Padilla Bay will provide poster presentations of GIS work done at the Reserve.
