Title: Integrating Geographic Data in a Tax Assessment System
Abstract: This paper presents the integration of spatial data with the Assessment and Taxation System for Kitsap
County, WA. The design was intended to eliminate data discrepancies associated with multiple versions of data in
different systems, provide the ability to query and maintain both spatial and non-spatial data from anywhere
in the system, and increase overall performance in serving spatial data to diverse client applications. An intersect
table containing denormalized data is used at the core of the integration. This technique shifts the workload to
data maintenance and increases data query performance.
