ArcScripts (ESRI and ESRI User's downloadable scripts, extensions, amls, etc)

see also WWU Notes on using ArcScripts

                see also GISuser's ArcGIS Add-ons

ArcExplorer (downloadable free lightweight GIS viewer from ESRI)

ArcReader (downloadable free viewer for ArcGIS maps created with ArcPublisher from ESRI)

ESRI Online Support (searchable database of technical articles, discussion forums, email list archives, scripts, etc)

Notes on Obtaining a copy of ESRI Software:

WWU is currently using ArcGIS 9.x as our main teaching software. This is installed in the Spatial Labs (AH-14, AH-16 and ES-318) as well as many of the ATUS Windows Labs on campus (Haggerd Hall, etc.)

ESRI provides a Free Evaluation copy of ArcGIS 9.x (the ArcView version, with extensions). This is a full copy of ArcView 9.x that can be used for 30 days. To pick up a CD, stop by Stefan's office (AH-205). For more information on the evaluation CD, or to obtain a copy directly from ESRI, visit the ESRI ArcView Evaluation CD website

Currently enrolled students have three options for purchasing ArcGIS software:

1. You can purchase a 1-year full version of ArcView 9.x (with the Spatial Analyst, 3-D Analyst and Geostatistical Analyst Extensions) for $100 (this is the recommended option, especially since there will undoubtedly be a new version of the software within the next 12 months anyway...). This versions does not include data or manuals, but we have those on campus. No upgrades, no tech support. Contact ESRI sales at 1-800-447-9778  ext.1306 for purchase details.

OR

2. You can purchase a permanent version (no time limit) of ArcView 3.x or ArcGIS 9.x for $250 (no upgrades, no tech support). This comes with data and manuals but no extensions. Extensions cost another $150 each. Contact ESRI sales at 1-800-447-9778  ext.1306 for purchase details.

FOR EITHER student purchase option, you will need to provide a copy of your course schedule (from the registrar) and a faculty signature as evidence of your current enrollment for a minimum of 6 credits.

3. You also can purchase the Getting to Know ArcGIS (second edition) book, which comes with a 180 version of the same software (including the extensions). The book (with CD) costs $60.00, and is available from ESRI Press.

To use ArcGIS you need: Windows NT, 2000 or XP (650+ MHz, 512+ RAM and 16+ MG Video Card STRONGLY recommended).
