Summer Youth Theatre Institute
Staff Biographies

DR. DEBORAH CURRIER holds a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon, Eugene. She currently serves as director of the Theatre for Youth Program and teaches theatre history, dramatic literature, children's theatre, secondary theatre techniques and creativity across the curriculum. She has extensive experience with children's theater, serving as the artistic director for the Mad Duckling Children's Theatre in Eugene and was tour actor/cirector with the Missoula Children's Theatre International Touring Project. Currently, she directs the Multicultural Outreach Touring Project (MOTley Crew) and serves as a board member for the Allied Arts Education Project, where she has developed theater residencies for Whatcom County schools for the past two years. Currier also serves as regional chair for the KC/ACTF Dramaturgy Competition and Critic's Institute, and was recently awarded the Eugene O'Neill Critic's Institute award nomination from the Kennedy Center. Her past directing credits for Western include The Suppliant Women, The Illusion, The Taffetas, G.I. Jukebox and Kind Ness, which was invited as a participating production to KC/ACTF in February 2003.
