Odyssey of Science & Arts

Wednesday Early Release Program, Grades K-5
new wednesday
Odyssey of Science & Arts is not your typical after school program. It is an extraordinary opportunity for students to explore the fun of science and art in a university setting.

Students will discover the "best kept secret" places on Western's campus and ignite their imagination and creativity. Hands-on activities in specialized labs, classrooms and Wade King Student Recreation Center will fill the afternoon with phenomenal learning opportunities and great fun.

Each session is from 1:45-5:15 p.m.

1:45 – 2:30 p.m., Recreation: field games or sports, scavenger hunt, nature hike
2:30 – 5:15 p.m., Hands-on learning activities

April 25 – Underwater Wonders: Marine Science FULL

Dive-in head first to explore the land and animals of our local coastline through hands-on experiences in Western's Coastal Lab and Science Learning Resource Center in the Science, Math and Technology Education Building.

  • Build the shoreline of Bellingham Bay to see how the our coastline is formed
  • Discover how light under the water affects how organisms are perceived
  • Create camouflage creatures to discover the importance of sea life adaptations
  • Act as predator and prey

Students are divided into 2 classrooms (grades K-2 and grades 3-5) to ensure appropriate learning levels and adult to child ratio of 1:10.

A FREE 20 minute parking permit is provided for convenient drop-off and pick-up.

Cost:
$39 per individual session (includes instruction materials and a snack)

(Registration is closed.)

$99 for all three sessions

Students are asked to bring:
  • Your rain jacket and
  • Bring your curious mind

Cancellation and Refunds
Cancellations must be made three working days before your Wednesday session. Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing and will be refunded minus a $25 handling fee.
