Global Connections
Mission Statement: Global Connections provides opportunities for youth from different cultures to build connections through academic and recreational programming in a cooperative student-centered university setting.
Grades 4-6
Spend 1, 2 or 3 weeks on Western’s campus exploring engaging science topics with new friends during this exciting summer program. Join students in grades 4-6 from South Korea sponsored by JLS Academy for a fun Western experience. Each weekly session is a balance of morning enrichment and afternoon recreational activities that are designed to foster active minds and bodies.

Overview on themes
University resources and facilities create an extraordinary learning environment where students investigate hands-on science, nature and arts. The award winning Wade King Recreation Center provides the perfect setting to continue the morning learning through afternoon “camp” activities; including swimming, rock-wall climbing, archery, arts and crafts, and much more.
Wait that’s not all –
summer camp is about fun activities! A special full-day field trip is schedule each Wednesday. Transportation, admission and supervisory staff are provided by JLS.
Field Trips
July 25 – Woodland Park Zoo (Seattle)
August 1 – Pacific Science Center (Seattle)
August 8 – Birch Bay Waterslides
Students are divided into 2-3 classrooms to ensure the adult to child ratio of 1-10.
Lunch is provided in the “all-you-can-eat” University cafeteria on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Detailed Daily Schedule –

Academic Period 8:45-9:00 a.m. Check-in
9:00-9:30 a.m. Entry activities; team-building games
9:40-11:40 a.m. Lessons based on theme
11:40-11:50 a.m. Closing and clean-up
11:50-12:00 noon Pack-up/wash hands
Noon-12:45 p.m. Lunch in cafeteria
12:45-1:00 p.m. Walk to WKSRC
Recreation Period
1:00-3:00 p.m. *Activity rotations (vary each week, each day)
3:15-3:30 p.m. Snack time
3:30-4:15 p.m. Pool time
4:30-4:45 p.m. Check-out
*Team-building activities include: rock-climbing, board games, field or gym games, sports, archery, hiking, arts and crafts are based on weekly theme.
What to Bring Daily
- Two (2) snacks and refillable water bottle
- Attire for swimming and sporting activities (swimsuit, towel, tennis shoes)
- Sunscreen and any other sports gear

Cost (Includes instructional materials, 4 cafeteria lunches, afternoon recreation, Wednesday field trip):
$150 per week
$135 per week if registering for 3 weeks

Cancellation and Refunds
A full refund is granted if a Western Kids Camp session is cancelled. No reduction in fees is given for late arrival, early departure, vacations, special events, short-term illness or expulsion for disciplinary reasons. Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing 14 working days before the first day of the scheduled session; a $50 weekly per session handling charge will be deducted. Refunds will not be granted for requests postmarked less than 14 days before your session begins.-
