Meet the Instructor

It takes talent to successfully teach a complex subject to people from diverse backgrounds. Meet Marie Raney, Web Design and Development instructor.  Raney has been involved in the computer arena since the early 80's.

Raney has an extensive and varied background of computer and software experience.  In her first endeavor, she co-authored the operating system that still runs the F/A -18 Flight Simulators.  Her next project was as a faculty research programmer for the Center for Innovative Housing/Energy Studies at the University of Oregon.

Then along came the internet which had just incorporated images into its presentation.  Here was the new synthesis of art and technology and communication!  She tried to resist its pull but the thin edge of the wedge was teaching HTML to 7th graders in 1995, then creating intranets for various companies she worked for and finally getting a job as Manager of Engineering for Zairmail.com in Portland, Oregon.  ZairMail.com delivered its entire service online.

Marie's current position is Webmaster at Western Washington University. She leads a group of software specialists, who support and develop Web applications for academic departments throughout the university.
