Introduction to Fiction Video Production
In this hands-on course, you will see how the five phases of narrative fiction video production are integrated into a production. Working in small production teams, you will apply what you learn in this course by producing a 3-5 minute video from a narrative script provided by the instructor. This fast- moving class does not require any previous video production experience. you will want to budget 2-3 hours per week to work on your project. You may use your own video equipment (with instructor permission) or use equipment provided (an equipment fee applies). By the end of the course, you will have sufficient knowledge to plan and execute your own short video production.

Introduction to Documentary Video Production
In this hands-on course, you will learn the unique characteristics of non-fiction video production whether you are interested in doing documentary, corporate, industrial or commercial productions. Working in a small production team, you will apply what you learn in this course to produce either a 3-5 minute documentary or client-driven community service, information or training video. This fast-moving class does not require any previous video production experience. You will want to budget 2-3 hours per week to work on your project. You may use your own video equipment (with instructor permission) or use equipment provided (an equipment fee applies). Script Writing
This workshop focuses on the development of a commercial script with a story arc, character development, dramatic construction, and dialogue. You will produce a short script for production. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production or permission of the program director.

Directing
This workshop focuses on the art and craft of film directing specifically related to commercial video production. Story structure associated with directorial decision-making will be examined. The course will explore the methods for directing actors within a scene using a single camera technique. Topics such as staging actors, camera blocking, and camera movement will be covered. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production or permission of the program director.

Video Production Management
This workshop series introduces the critical production decisions that either make or break a video production and includes pre-production team management, budgeting, and casting. Particular attention will be given to funding and financing of video projects. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production or permission of the program director.

Cinematography and Lighting
This workshop series is designed to teach techniques of video production and lighting techniques for studio and field situations. This hand’s-on workshop teaches video esthetics – the mood one creates and how to capture a story on video to achieve informational or emotional ends. This workshop is offered with Location Sound Recording. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production or permission of the program director.

Location Sound Recording
In this workshop, you will learn about synchronous video and professional audio technologies. Areas covered include microphones, analog and digital audio recorders, SMPTE time code, video formats, and video data tracks so that you will be able to use a location sound package to capture sound and dialogue on location. This workshop is offered with Cinematography and Lighting. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production or permission of the program director.

Post Production Sound
In this course you will learn basic video editing techniques, particularly the use of the Final Cut Pro Editor and use this software for all the necessary steps of editing, conforming, and sound mixing.
Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production
Demonstrate and understand techniques in producing post audio production for film and video: Foley sound effects digital sound effects, voice replacement, noise reduction, mixing audio levels for broadcast, audio waveform levels and frequency, sync audio to video, pre production of audio for post audio studio work.

Editing for Film
In this final course of the certificate program, you’ll learn basic video editing techniques, particularly the use of the Final Cut Express Editor and use this software for all the necessary steps of editing, conforming, and sound mixing. One Year Thesis Project
Course goals are for the student to produce a thesis film project demonstrating the knowledge acquired in the first year of study.
Course Requirements & Policies:
- Milestones and work completed will be done independently so students will need to be self-motivated and able to manage themselves.
- Each team should be prepared to spend a minimum of $500 on their project.
- All work must be original.
