Fiction Video Production
In this hands-on class, you will be guided through the five phase process of creating a movie. Working in small production teams, you’ll apply what you learn in this course by producing a 3-5 minute video from a narrative script written and selected by your team. This fast moving class does not require any previous video production experience. You'll want to budget 2-3 hours per week to work on your project and one weekend to shoot. By the end of the course, you’ll have sufficient knowledge to plan and execute your own short video production.

Documentary/Non-fiction Video Production
In this hands-on class, you'll learn the unique characteristics of non-fiction video production whether you are interested in doing a documentary, corporate, industrial or commercial productions. Working in a small production team, you'll apply what you learn in this course to produce a 3-5 minute documentary or client-driven community service, information or training video. This fast moving class does not require any previous video production experience. You'll want to budget 2-3 hours per week to work on your project. By the end of the course, you’ll have sufficient knowledge to plan and execute your own short video production.

Script Writing
This workshop focuses on the development of a script with a story arc, character development, dramatic construction, and dialogue. Students will produce a short script for production. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production.

Directing
This class focuses on the art and craft of directing. The course will explore the methods for casting, rehearsing and directing actors as well developing your directorial visualization through the image, art and music. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production.

Production Management
This class introduces the critical production decisions that make or break a video production and includes pre-production, budgeting, logistics, scheduling and team management. Particular attention will be given to financing and distribution of video projects. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production.

Cinematography and Lighting
This workshop is designed to teach techniques of video production and lighting techniques for studio and field situations. This hands on workshop teaches video esthetics – the mood one creates and how to tell a story with the moving image. This workshop is offered with Location Sound Recording. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production.

Location Sound Recording
In this workshop, you’ll learn about how to capture clean audio in production. Areas covered include microphones and microphone selection, the physics of audio, SMPTE time code as well as applied practical techniques of boom operation and location sound mixing. Offered in conjunction with Cinematography. Prerequisite: Fiction or Non-fiction Video Production.

Post-Production Sound
In this workshop, you’ll learn about how to build a sound track in post production, work with an audio post production facility and participate in a demonstration of an ADR session.

Editing for Film
In this course you will learn editing theory, scene construction, workflow of post production, tools of the editor, history of editing, advanced editing techniques and editing the documentary. Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor.

Summer Film Project
Course goal is for the student to produce a thesis film project demonstrating the knowledge acquired in the first year of study.
  • Milestones and work completed will be done independently so students will need to be self-motivated and able to manage themselves.
  • Each team should be prepared to spend a minimum of $500 on their project.
  • All work must be original.
