Application Guidelines 2009-2010
We encourage students with a variety of creative and life experiences to apply. In order to provide the best experience for students, we ask that you think about the following: Why are you interested in this field of study? Are you comfortable with basic computer functions? And we will ask you to share some of your creative ideas with us.
Application Deadline for Priority Registration: September 10, 2009
Formal admittance to Western Washington University is not required. Please do not submit materials or application to Western’s Admissions Office. All materials should be presented in one package or email to the EESP office (see below).
There are three steps for application to Western’s Video Production Certificate Program:

Statement of Goals
Complete a short statement of your interest and goals relating to film and video production. Statement should not be longer than one page, double-spaced. Include your email, regular mail and phone contact information. -
Computer Literacy

Portfolio Submission
Submissions need not be polished or complete works. Material done in collaboration with other artists is acceptable provided you were the major creative force (i.e., director, producer, writer) and you explain in detail the exact nature of your contribution.
a. Video: The submission must be on one DVD (Region 1 format only) and can contain one or more selections as long as the total running time does not exceed 10 minutes. Video footage of staged plays or theatre performances is not acceptable.
b. Photographs (Stills): no more than 10 stills on any subject, black and white or color, with or without commentary. Digital format only. The photographs may also be a presentation of work in other media, such as painting, illustration, sculpture, architectural drawings, set design, costume design, etc.
c. Storyboard: One scene from a film in picture form. Submission must be in a digital format (PDF, JPEG, TIF), original can be hand drawn or created digitally
d. A story synopsis for a four-minute film. There should be a visual story line and characters, but no voice-over, description of camera angles, or music (typed, double-spaced, in paragraph form up to four pages).
Please submit Statement of Goals and Portfolio together.
