Querétaro offers a rich environment for sociological study and expansion of insight into Mexican culture. Join Sociology Professor Ron Helms this summer to gain a better understanding of Mexican culture, local community history, cultural norms and the various forms of social control. Engage in a wide variety of activities such as reading, researching, writing and traveling throughout the city of Querétaro and nearby historical, cultural sites and neighboring communities.
- Discover how history and institutions such as religion and law shapes current practices and beliefs
- Explore the diverse sources of social control
- Expand your understanding and use of field research methods and ability to create researchable questions
- Use scientific methods of inquiry to collect, evaluate and report about empirical data
- Improve your ability to observe and communicate findings on a broad range of themes
- Understand and appreciate diverse cultural traditions and assess contributing sources of those respective traditions
