Tuition and Fees

Summer Session is a self-sustaining offering of Western Washington University.

Registration Charges
By registering, a student incurs a legal obligation to pay tuition and fees. This debt may be cancelled only if the student officially withdraws from the University by contacting the Registrar's Office before the course refund deadline. Tuition and fees are due the first day of the quarter whether or not you have received an email billing notification. You can choose to pay by cash, check, debit card (VISA or MasterCard only), credit card (MasterCard/American Express/Discover or eCheck (see Methods of Making Payments).  


Summer Enrollment Fee

A mandatory enrollment fee of $60 is charged to all students enrolled during Summer Session. The fee is non-refundable after June 27.

 Additional Fees


Services & Activities Fee

A mandatory fee of $10.42 per credit is charged to support student activities, facilities and housing, and Associated Students administration.  The fee is refundable on the same schedule as tuition.


Renewable Energy Fee

Assessed to all students at $.70 per credit hour to a maximum of $7.00 per quarter. The sole purpose of this fee is to fund the purchase of renewable energy. The renewable energy purchased from this fee will be used to reduce or eliminate the University's use of energy generated by traditional, non-renewable sources. The fee is refundable on the same schedule as tuition.


 Mandatory Fees

Mandatory fees are charged per quarter to each student who registers for six or more credits.


Health Services Fee--$63.00

This fee is non-refundable after the fourth day of summer quarter. The fee is used to establish a standard of health care for Bellingham’s campus and as a contingency for emergency services.


Building Fee--$35

This fee is non-refundable after the fourth day of summer quarter. The fee is used as part of the Housing/Dining system to renovate the Viking Union
Building and recreational facilities.


Recreation Center Fee--$94.00

This fee is non-refundable after the fourth day of summer quarter. The fee is used for construction, operation and maintenance of the Wade King Student Recreation Center.
 

Technology Fee--$17
This fee is non-refundable after the fourth day of summer quarter. The fee is used to upgrade and expand technology equipment, facilities and software on Bellingham’s campus.

Transportation Fee--$20
This fee is non-refundable after the fourth day of summer quarter. The fee is used to provide transportation resources including a Viking Xpress bus pass for each student*.

A summer quarter student* is eligible to receive a Viking Xpress bus pass, valid for unlimited rides on all WTA routes. Summer Viking Xpress passes are valid 6/22/08-9/23/08. Student Viking Xpress bus passes are distributed through the Western Card office in Edens Hall. *Students taking 6 or more credits are automatically assessed the $20 Summer Student Transportation Fee; students taking 1-5 credits can opt in to the student transportation program by paying the fee. Fee and eligibility do not apply to online or off-site classes or non-credit programs.  
 

 Miscellaneous Fees

Special Course Fees
In certain instances, the University may charge special fees for services which normal budgets may not fund, such as music practice room rentals or purchase of special laboratory and studio supplies, or travel fees. These fees are listed in the Timetable or in Classfinder.

Orientation Fee
A mandatory fee of $250 is charged to all newly matriculated (admitted) undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students upon registration for their first quarter of attendance. This fee is non-refundable and does not apply to non-WWU students taking summer courses only.


Transcript Fee

There is a $8 fee for transcripts (Transcript fee will change to $9 beginning July 1, 2008).  Requests should be submitted to the Registrar’s Office at least two weeks prior to need. Transcripts are not issued for persons who have an outstanding debt to the University.   Transcript fees are subject to change.


Late Registration Fee

Students registering after June 27 will incur a late registration fee of $10 per credit. (Students registering for most late-start courses 3–5 weeks in length can enroll prior to the second class meeting without a late fee.)


Late-Add Fee

Students already registered and adding a course after the second week of the quarter (July 8), will incur a $10 per-credit late-add fee. (Students registering for most late-start courses 3-5 weeks in length, can enroll prior to the second class meeting without a late fee.)


Late Payment Fee

Tuition is due the first day of the quarter. Students who pay after the July 15 deadline will be assessed a $75 late-payment fee plus one percent interest monthly on the outstanding balance. Failing to pay tuition in a timely manner will result in other penalties such as suspension of classes, a hold, and a $10 per-credit charge to reinstate classes.
 

Charges for courses added after the tuition deadline (July 15), which result in additional tuition, are due immediately.


 PARKING FEES
 

Parking permits, Faculty-Staff bus passes, and citations must be paid for at the Parking Office. The office is located in the Campus Services building and is open from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

After hours, citation payments may be dropped off at University Police dispatch (also located in the Campus Services building). If you plan to use financial aid to pay for parking fees and your aid is not available until the quarter begins, contact the Parking Office in advance to make temporary arrangements for parking; until your permit is paid.
