WWU’s Costa Rica travel course represents a significant relationship between Huxley College of the Environment and the Central Pacific Conservation Area of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy of Costa Rica. As a participant in this program, you have the unique opportunity to research environmental sciences and policy and administration and to directly impact Costa Rica’s preservation and educational missions.
The program provides participants with 10 credits of course work, six days of study at Costa Rica’s University of Peace, 20 days of field experience in two different rainforests and eight days of ecotourism excursions. The three courses will include studies on Environmental Peace and Globalization, Conservation Science and Policy Interfaces and International Environmental Research Experience.
Living Conditions
Program participants will live, work, research and hike for prolonged periods of time under tropical conditions. Lodging includes both hotel stays and 10 days in national park biological stations in the Central and Southern Pacific Coasts.
Dates / Cost / Financial Aid
The program begins June 24 and ends August 1, 2008, with an approximate cost of $4,000, plus airfare. (Tuition is $136 per credit.)
Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements, including departure and return dates. Participants will arrive and depart from Juan Santa Maria International Airport in San José, Costa Rica.
Priority Deadline: March 14, 2008 (based on a first-come, first-served basis)
There is a $100, non-refundable deposit to EESP.
There is a $100 surcharge for non-resident students.

Eligibility
This travel course is open to everyone, including community members and students
from other universities and is limited to 25 participants.
There are no language requirements but participants must demonstrate personal
maturity, motivation, flexibility and international perspective.
