Five Courses:
1. Introduction to SQL Server 2005/2008 and Transact SQL
This class is a prerequisite for several other WWU SQL Server classes:
- MS Access to SQL Server 2005/2008
- SQL Server 2005/2008 for Developers
- SQL Server 2005/2008 for Administrators
- SQL Server 2005/2008 Performance Tuning (for Administrator and Developers)
Schedule:
Tuesday, January 5, 12, 19; 6 - 9 p.m. and
Saturday, January 23, 9 - noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
Description:
This course introduces the key concepts in relational database models and their implementation in Microsoft SQL Server. It focuses on developing the basic SQL server skills that are necessary for developers, administrators or people attempting to migrate data from access to SQL server. The following topics will be covered:
- Installing and using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2008
- Foundations of Transact-SQL
- Creating Tables
- Constraints
- Joins and the relational database
- SQL Server Report Server (SSRS)

2. Moving from MS Access to SQL Server
This class has a prerequisite of Introduction to SQL Server 2005/2008 and Transact SQL or proof of equivalent experience.
This class is the second in a series of SQL Server 2005/2008 courses and is applicable to both developers and administrators. This course is not required, but may be helpful for students continuing on to the following courses:
- SQL Server 2005/2008 for Developers
- SQL Server 2005/2008 for Administrators
- SQL Server 2005/2008 Performance Tuning (for Administrator and Developers)
Tuesday, February 2 and 9, 6 - 9 p.m. and

Description:
This course covers in detail the steps and processes involved in moving data and applications from Microsoft Access over to Microsoft SQL Server. The following topics will be covered:
- Class Overview, Access and SQL Server comparison and differences, Class Project Overview
- Access to SQL Server, Migrating Data, Applications and Users
- SQL Server to Access, SQL Server and Access working together
- SSRS, Presentation of Class Projects, Course Review

3. SQL Server 2005/2008 for Developers

- Aggregates, unions, cross joins, self joins. XML in Transact-SQL
- Full-Text Searching. More advanced Transact-SQL
- Data In - Data Out: Integrations Services, Builk Copy, Scripting, Replication overview
- Defensive programming against SQL Injection
- Presentation of Class Projects, Course Review
