    OUR MISSION

Extended Education connects learners of all ages to the Western Experience. Extended Education collaborates with colleges, departments and the community, connecting university resources with educational needs and opportunities both on and off campus.

    QUALITY PROGRAMS

Extended Education is committed to the same high standards of quality for which Western is well known. Programs and courses are designed with the assistance of university faculty, aided by industry and community experts and are reviewed and approved by WWU colleges, departments and academic committees. Advisory boards of field experts, administrators and faculty assist Extended Education in the development of new courses and revision or updating of existing programs.

    PAST AND PRESENT

Extended Education at Western Washington University had its beginnings in 1912 when the first home study courses were created for country teachers. Fast forward to the 21st century where Extended Education has expanded and diversified its offerings in Bellingham and throughout the Puget Sound region to provide learning options for youth to seniors.

Academy for Lifelong Learning

Inspired by the belief "A curious mind never retires", Academy for Lifelong Learning (A.L.L.) offers a diverse spectrum of academic and cultural programming. Through 50+ educational programs and excursions to area museums, art galleries, concert halls and nature preserves, A.L.L. members are given numerous opportunities to continue to learn and grow – without homework, tests or credit.

Programs are open to all interested adults, regardless of age or educational background. Though hosted and administered by Western Washington University’s Extended Education, A.L.L. is 100% member-driven and supported by membership dues and program fees.

As A.L.L. has experienced tremendous growth (300+ members), they were looking long and hard for a permanent “home”. We are happy to report that A.L.L.’s need has been met, as Western has dedicated two seminar rooms in the Administrative Annex Building on 32nd Street solely for A.L.L.’s use. These meeting rooms will accommodate many of A.L.L.’s educational programs.  The rooms will be put to good use in March when A.L.L.’s spring term begins.

Learn more about this exciting organization and see how you can become involved and gain from the free flow of knowledge by visiting A.L.L.’s website, College Hall 104, or contact us at AcadLL@wwu.edu or (360) 650-4970.  .
