The Nesset Farm Environmental Stewardship Project
records were generated during a 1999 environmental stewardship project led by Professors Wendy Walker and John McLaughlin
of Huxley College at Western Washington University. The collection comprises
student reports, photographic negatives and proof sheets, audio tape interviews,
and VHS interviews.
The reports contain maps and supporting data for Nesset
Farm and the adjacent Overby/Goodyear-Nelson property for use as a preliminary
site plan in the creation of a new county park along the South Fork of the
Nooksack River in Whatcom County, Washington. The reports present historical
information (including an environmental
history) of the Nesset Farm area and include contain maps of the proposed park, farm buildings
and Nesset Creek. The reports also include a series of maps and data documenting
the South Fork of the Nooksack River.
The collection also contains a small number of
undated historical photographic negatives and proof sheets of Nesset Farm, area
residents and family members. Audio tapes contain oral history interviews with Nesset farm neighbors and family members. VHS tapes contain
interviews with family members, Nesset farm neighbors, and Rand Jack, a
representative of the Whatcom land Trust. The collection also includes VHS recordings of
original and edited versions of the final class presentation.
