Center for
Pacific Northwest Studies
James W. Scott
Regional Research Fellowship
2001-2002 and
2002-2003
The Center for Pacific Northwest
Studies, Western Washington University, announces the
availability of two annual research fellowships of $250 to
promote the use of its collections* and to forward scholarly
understandings of the Pacific Northwest.
Eligibility,
Tenure, and Deadlines:
Two awards of $250 each will be granted each fiscal
year to researchers who propose to undertake significant
research into the Center’s archival holdings.
The Center for Pacific Northwest Studies will award
two annual fellowships:
one to a junior scholar (those in graduate programs
or who have finished the Ph.D. within the last two years or
are relatively new to the field of historical research and
writing), and one to a senior scholar (generally published
authors or those more than three years out from the Ph.D.). In years in which no senior scholar applies or
receives a fellowship, a second junior fellowship will be
awarded. Fellows
must be in residence at the Center during the fiscal year
(July 1 to June 30) for which they have applied, with the
exception of the first fellowships for the 2001-2002 fiscal
year, which have been extended until September 15, 2002.
Applications for the 2001-2002 fiscal year
fellowships will be reviewed starting December 15, 2001, and
remain open until two fellowships are granted.
Applications for the 2002-2003 are due at the Center
for Pacific Northwest Studies by May 15, 2002, but
applications will be accepted until two have been awarded.
Fellow
Responsibilities: Fellows
are asked to spend approximately a week or longer examining
Center holdings and to give at least one public talk or
workshop regarding some aspect of their research during
their visit to the Center.
The audiences for these talks will vary depending on
the time of the year, but fellows may expect to speak to the
general public, area students, and specialists in their own
fields.
Procedure
for Application: Applicants
must provide a c.v., a brief plan of research, and a list of
possible lecture/workshop topics to Chris Friday, Director,
Center for Pacific Northwest Studies, Western Washington
University, Bellingham, WA 98225-9123.
